Papers from all disciplines, both academic and applied fields, are invited for presentation at the Seventeenth Annual Conference of the Global Awareness Society International.  As reflected in the conference theme –“One Globe: Many Voices, Many Challenges”– the central focus of the conference will address how globalization impacts various peoples and systems of the world.  We define globalization broadly to include an array of issues that incorporate a global, international, or cross-cultural component.   Examples include economic issues and processes, education, environment, gender, health and medicine, human rights, internal and transnational migration, issues pertaining to the family, issues in social work, labor and employment, law and legal issues, criminal justice, nations and nationalism, political change, political economy, popular culture, poverty and social inequality, racial and ethnic issues, refugees and internally displaced persons, religion, social movements, social change, technology, issues pertaining to conflict, war, and peace, and finally, regional studies: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America, and the Middle East.

INDIVIDUAL PAPER PRESENTATION PROPOSALS:
Please send an abstract of no more than one page double-spaced–including (1) your name, (2) your academic affiliation, and (3) the title of your paper  Please type the word, GASI, in the subject line of your email.

SESSION PROPOSALS:

Please send a listing of all session information: (1) title of the session, (2) name and academic affiliation of the chair/presider for the session, (3) titles of all papers and names and academic affiliations of all presenters, and (4) email addresses of all session participants.   (Sessions typically include three or four papers.)  Please send session proposals to Dr. Lewis A. Mennerick, Department of Sociology, University of Kansas, at the following email address: mennerick@ku.edu.  Please type the word, GASI, in the subject line of your email.   Conference Registration

All participants and guests are expected to register for the conference. Registrations fees are: $195 for a conference participant, $65 for a student participant. These include participation in the Global Banquet on Friday, May 23, 2008, all coffee breaks, and a copy of the Conference Proceedings.  Registration fees are due at the time of paper acceptance. Checks or money orders payable to GASI maybe sent to James C. Pomfret, Treasurer, GASI, Bloomsburg University, 400 East Second Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 USA.
